"description": "One of the most popular and influential games of the 1980's, Pac-Man stars a little, yellow dot-muncher who works his way around to clear a maze of the various dots and fruit which inhabit the board.\n\nPac-Man's goal is continually challenged by four ghosts: The shy blue ghost Bashful (\"Inky\"), the trailing red ghost Shadow (\"Blinky\"), the fast pink ghost Speedy (\"Pinky\"), and the forgetful orange ghost Pokey (\"Clyde\"). One touch from any of these ghosts means loss of a life for Pac-Man.\n\nPac-Man can turn the tables on his pursuers by eating one of the four Power-Pills located around the maze. During this time, the ghosts turn blue, and Pac-Man can eat them for bonus points. This only lasts for a limited amount of time as the ghosts' eyes float back to their center box and regenerate to chase after Pac-Man again.\n\nSurvive a few rounds of gameplay, and be treated to humorous intermissions starring Pac-Man and the ghosts.",

"description": "Dig Dug is a 1-2 player arcade game in which you have to use your shovel to dig your way through the earth. Stopping you from doing this are two monsters, called Pooka and Fygar, who will continually chase you around. The only weapon that you carry is an air pump, which you can use to inflate the monsters to the point where they explode. (if you start to inflate them but stop doing so, the monsters will get turned back to their normal selves). Furthermore, rocks are scattered throughout the earth, and you can use these rocks to squash them. If the monsters do not find you for several seconds, they will eventually get turned into ghosts, which are able to walk through the earth. They are invincible and cannot be killed. From time to time, vegetables will appear in the center, and you can get these for points.\n ",

Once inside, you must make your way through Skynet and obtain a Terminator yourself. These levels are played in a side-scrolling fashion. The next level is a difficult puzzle - you must reprogram the Terminator so that it will protect John Connor instead of killing him. You need to realign the wires so that power cells can reach their destinations and reset the program.\n

Your goal is to reveal the hidden picture inside each grid by chipping away the correct squares. Clues along the grid's edges help you figure out which squares should be chipped away, and which should be left alone. The puzzles are much more advanced than those in Mario's Picross - easy puzzles are in a 15x15 grid, while standard Picross puzzles are four 15x15 grids connected together, solved one section at a time.\n\nPicross 2 has two modes of play: the first, Mario's Picross, has you solving Picross puzzles with Mario. In this mode, the timer ticks down from 30 minutes, and you must solve the puzzle before the timer reaches zero. The player begins at the start location of the board and must use one of their \"numbered value tiles\". If the number chosen is above 1, the player must compete on a slot machine to try to win a value up to what was written on the tile. Following that, the player is able to move the number value, which they have won, of spaces on the board. Certain squares will activate events that include talking with characters, buying items and engaging in battle.\n\nBattles with enemies are handled by each side choosing one of the numbered tiles they own. The party with the higher number becomes the attacker and the lower value becomes the defender. Each side then chooses another numbered tile to determine the amount of \"effort\" put into the attack or defense as well as a position of the body to attack/defend. Rufus, a man from the future, grants them a device for time-travelling and so they visit the past to bring historical figures into their own time.\n\nThis is a single-screen platformer reminiscent of Jumpman. The major corporation there, Omni Consumer Products (OCP) saw an opportunity to sell a new kind of law enforcement officer to the troubled city. They took what was left of Murphy, encased it in titanium armor, wiped his memory and created RoboCop. Now it's up to RoboCop to clean the streets of Detroit and eliminate the one responsible for his murder, Clarence Boddicker. But it looks like Clarence might not be the kingpin of this town...\n\nOcean's version of RoboCop for 8-bit machines loosely adapts the Data East arcade game, with stages inspired by those from the coin-op, but also entirely new gameplay elements.\n\nIn most levels, RoboCop walks from left to right, shooting his gun at hordes of enemies that intend to kill him with bullets, chainsaws or their fists. Stages include the streets of Detroit (in two parts, based on the first level of the arcade), a drug factory (based on the fourth arcade level), and a junkyard (based on the third coin-op stage). Gun power-ups to collect include a rapid fire model, a three-way shot and a powerful flame cannon. Two levels end with boss fights against RoboCop's chief adversary ED-209. For some reason, ED is impervious to bullets and must be defeated using Robo's fists alone.\n\nNew challenges from the arcade include hostage scenarios: in these, seen from a first-person perspective, a criminal holds an innocent person. Moving crosshairs and firing precisely, RoboCop must take care to shoot only the criminal, not the civilian.\n\nAnother new game element requires some quick thinking: in a puzzle mode, a composite sketch of a suspect is presented and must be matched by choosing the correct parts (hair, chin, eyes, etc.) of the face within a tight time limit.", "game_id": 30924, "genres": [ { "genre_category": "Basic Genres", "genre_category_id": 1, "genre_id": 1, "genre_name": "Action" }, { "genre_category": "Setting", "genre_category_id": 10, "genre_id": 8, "genre_name": "Sci-fi / futuristic" }, { "genre_category": "Gameplay", "genre_category_id": 4, "genre_id": 9, "genre_name": "Arcade" }, { "genre_category": "Perspective", "genre_category_id": 2, "genre_id": 17, "genre_name": "Side view" }, { "genre_category": "Gameplay", "genre_category_id": 4, "genre_id": 21, "genre_name": "Platform" }, { "genre_category": "Other Attributes", "genre_category_id": 6, "genre_id": 82, "genre_name": "Licensed" }, { "genre_category": "Visual Presentation", "genre_category_id": 12, "genre_id": 131, "genre_name": "2D scrolling" } ], "moby_score": 3.3, "moby_url": "http://www.mobygames.com/game/robocop__", "num_votes": 64, "official_url": null, "platforms": [ { "first_release_date": "1988", "platform_id": 27, "platform_name": "Commodore 64" }, { "first_release_date": "1988", "platform_id": 41, "platform_name": "ZX Spectrum" }, { "first_release_date": "1989", "platform_id": 2, "platform_name": "DOS" }, { "first_release_date": "1989", "platform_id": 57, "platform_name": "MSX" }, { "first_release_date": "1989", "platform_id": 60, "platform_name": "Amstrad CPC" }, { "first_release_date": "1990", "platform_id": 10, "platform_name": "Game Boy" } ], "sample_cover": { "height": 984, "image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/32529-robocop-commodore-64-front-cover.jpg", "platforms": [ "Commodore 64" ], "thumbnail_image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/s/32529-robocop-commodore-64-front-cover.jpg", "width": 646 }, "sample_screenshots": [ { "caption": "Title", "height": 200, "image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/61206-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-title.gif", "thumbnail_image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/s/61206-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-title.gif", "width": 320 }, { "caption": "Level 1", "height": 200, "image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/61207-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-level-1.gif", "thumbnail_image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/s/61207-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-level-1.gif", "width": 320 }, { "caption": "\"Aaaaaiiiieeeeee\"", "height": 200, "image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/61208-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-aaaaaiiiieeeeee.gif", "thumbnail_image": "http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/s/61208-robocop-commodore-64-screenshot-aaaaaiiiieeeeee.gif", "width": 320 }, { "caption": "Murphy, you're looking the wrong way. "description": "Bionic Battler is a battle game based on the old-fashioned game of \"hide and seek\". The player's character, fitted in one of two Bionic Battlesuits, must search through five Labyrinths of War to destroy the Bionic Battlebots hell-bent on crushing human existence. In each labyrinth, the player must seek and destroy a certain number of Battlebots to make it out alive. But be careful - even though the Battlesuits are equipped with the same abilities as the Battlebots themselves, they can only take so much punishment. Too many hits will mean the destruction of both the Battlesuit and life as we know it. The player, however, can team up with a buddy to save humankind.",

"description": "It's the 21st Century, and mounting pollution has forced Earth's population to flee for Mars. Since that time, Earth has been uninhabited... until one day, super-intelligent robots from another galaxy descended on the planet and took over. While the robots did manage to solve Earth's pollution problem, they have done something else that may not be just as magnanimous: they have reshaped the Earth in their own image! Now, an ad hoc liberation army sets forth to rid the planet of these mechanical maniacs and make the Earth safe for humans again.\n\nChikyū Kaihō Gun ZAS is a shoot-em-up game in which a single player must shoot his/her way through 5 integrated stages of mayhem to save the Earth from the robot invasion. (The player can choose to start playing on any one of the first four stages, but can only access the final stage by starting from level 1 and fighting through level by level.) While the player only has a single weapon (which can upgraded) and a shield, he/she is assisted by a pair of guns that can be moved in a straight line from the ship, giving him/her more firepower when combating the enemies. Plus, the player can detect approaching enemies from the background. And the player will need every one of these advantages, because timing is key if the Earth is to be saved!",

"description": "Grime Z80 is a remake of the 1984 text mode game Grime for the IBM PC, now ported to an assortment of 8-bit computers and devices all based on the Zilog Z80 CPU. Like the unsanitary original, it inhabits the general territory of Centipede crossed with Conway's Game of Life: a multi-directional shooter where you battle an expansion of sloppy ooze which behaves and grows like a cellular automaton.\n\nThe little battleship roams the fixed playfield with its infinite supply of grime-destroying bullets, which can be shot in four directions (the game generously does the shooting for you: in the original game auto-fire was optional -- here it isn't). Mobile enemies travel across the screen and seed new patches of gooey mold; as the muck spreads and mutates, it spawns slimy seepage that actively seeks you out. You get three lives, which you lose if your ship touches one of the moving spores, or gets completely surrounded by goop.",

"description": "Well Defence is a 1-player arcade game for many systems.\n\nThe player is perched atop the ramparts of a medieval castle as enemy invaders attempt to scale the walls. The player can move horizontally, and boulders can be obtained from the far edges of the screen. The player's goal is to toss boulders down upon the enemy hordes, thus knocking them to the bottom of the castle. The player advances to a more difficult level every 200 points, and the speed which enemies ascend increases. When an enemy makes it to the top of the wall, the player is tossed to the ground, and the game is over. Goal is to maximize score. ",

"description": "Ninja Taro is an action RPG set in feudal Japan with gameplay similar to \"The Legend of Zelda\". In Japan, Ninja Taro is known as \"Sengoku Ninja-kun\", and is one of several titles in the Japanese \"Ninja Jajamaru-kun\" series.\n\nAs the eponymous Ninja Taro (or \"Ninja-kun\" in the Japanese release), you are tasked by your teacher, Kashin-Koji, to seek out Lord Nobu (\"Nobunaga Oda\"), who has requested the service of the land's greatest ninja. The path there is dangerous, but upon reaching Lord Nobu at Geko Castle, it is revealed that the evil Lord Shin Takeda (\"Takeda Shingen\") is rumored to have died. You are tasked with investigating the rumors to see if they are true or not.\n\nLord Shin's castle is located in Kai Province, not too far from Geko Castle, but the direct path there is blocked by a \"mighty beast\", a creature who is said to be able to withstand all weapons. Upon returning to your teacher for advice, you are tasked with seeking out your teacher's old friend, Kondo, in Iga Province. However, Kondo is nowhere to be found, but instead Kondo's daughter, who you must convince to help you before you're able to continue on your quest...\n\nAlthough you begin the game with your Ninja Sword and Throwing Stars, many other items can be found to assist you on your quest. Additional weapons, the Masamune and the Throwing Knives, are not as strong as your primary weapons, but are more agile; medicinal Herbs and Potions may be found that can heal you; and unique tools such as Camouflage and Fire will also be at your disposal, among many others.\n\nNinja Taro pulls stylistically from many sources, including Japanese history as well as classical mythology. Besides referencing real historical places and people, such as the real 16th century daimyo, Oda Nobunaga, Ninja Taro references many creatures from Japanese folklore, such as ghosts, tengu, and ogres. Additionally, some elements of the game's design are decidedly more modern, with some monstrous adversaries and locales seemingly out of popular Japanese animation.\n\nIn Ninja Taro, the player character's walking speed is very slow compared to similar games, but most enemies and adversaries are programmed with this in mind. \n\nNinja Taro appears to share its game engine with other action RPGs put out by American Sammy, namely: Rolan's Curse and Rolan's Curse 2.",
