April 2022 is no more. April has been all about blowing carts (see below), revisiting Go by pottering around with Webmentions (see [fighting webmention spam](/post/2022/04/fighting-webmention-and-pingback-spam)) and discovering more personal blogs to thicken my RSS subscriptions file. I also started running again to fight the ever increasing back pain.
National _Record Store Day_ was on the 23th and I completely forgot about it. I did buy _Only Built 4 Cuban Linx_, a 1995 classic, the day before, so it's all good. I'm starting to neglect my journaling habits. Nobody cares, but at this point, I'm just thinking aloud here and put it down as a reminder to myself. It's becoming difficult to write these "month in review" introductions---to be honest I have no idea what else happened in April (besides more bad world news I tried to ignore as best as I could---wow that sounds selfish).
Previous month in review: [March 2022](/post/2022/04/march-2022).
### Books I've read
- [De Moord Op De Kunst](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51957805-de-moord-op-de-kunst) (_The Murder Of Art_) by Thomas Crombez---finally finished. What a slog! To introduce the philosophy of aesthetics, Crombez also runs us through the obligatory big names of Western philosophy in a way that lulled me to sleep every few pages. The compelling parts are present, but it takes a lot of work to get there (and remember them).
- [Taal Is Zeg Maar Echt Mijn Ding](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6464859-taal-is-zeg-maar-echt-mijn-ding?) (_Language is so to speak really my thing_) by Paulien Cornelisse. A _lot_ shorter in both total pages and words per page to flush the aesthetics hangover. Cornelisse is a well-known Dutch stand-up comedian that is also very into etymology.
We bought a lot more this month to add to the backlog. Hopefully the pacing will pick up again after the struggle with Cormbez' book.
### Games I've played
Since the [Analogue Pocket arrived in April](/post/2022/04/analogue-pocket), I've been going through my collection of vintage---and as it turns out, mediocre---Game Boy carts. Although most games weren't really worth revisiting in 2022, I still had a lot of fun. Most of these can be finished in one hour.
- Wendy: Every Witch Way (GBC)
- Tweety & Silvester: Breakfast on the Run (GBC)
- Alfred Chicken (GB)
- Looney Tunes (GB)
- Looney Tunes Racing (GBC)
- Who Framed Roger Rabbit (GB)
Especially _Breakfast on the Run_ was a pleasant surprise and to me and what you could call an underrated gem:

See [the Codex games list](https://jefklakscodex.com/games/) for reviews of each game.
As for more recent games, the biggest (but also short) one Kristien & I finished together is [Unpacking](https://jefklakscodex.com/games/switch/unpacking/). Putting books in the shelves time and time again felt like meditative monotony. Unpacking is great at telling a story without telling a story and another of those wholesome games in the same vein as last month's _TOEM_ (which we preferred).
